Happy Memorial Day 2011

Memorial Day is the day we remember and honor those who have died in the line of service for our country. We pay homage and celebrate those brave souls who have fought and died for the freedoms we cherish today. Memorial Day became officially proclaimed on May 5^th 1868. The date has changed several times, and the southern states didn't participate until after WWI, but in 1971 it became a nationally recognized holiday. The Memorial Day weekend falls just as the warm days of summer near and schools let out for summer break, so it has also become the marker for the start of the summer season.

As this Memorial weekend comes, what will you be doing to celebrate? Putting the Flag out is the most common gesture of memorial. But, summer picnics and cookouts are also top on the list for most people. Local swimming pools open up, and families flock to neighboring beaches and parks. Whatever activities we choose to do this weekend, we should remember those who fought and died in service of the American people. To those brave souls, thank you.

Durbin Magic Freeze May Newsletter

April showers bring May flowers! Perhaps this year it is more accurate to say April showers bring more May showers. The rain and chilly weather have been relentless. For businesses like ours that rely on the weather, this spring has been a challenge to say the least. But, thankfully we have amazing and loyal customers who continue to brave the raindrops to come by for ice cream. Thank you all!

In spite of the wet weather, we are moving into our summer hours. We are now open until 11PM everyday. If the weather is particularly nasty, you may want to give us a call before coming out just to be sure we're open 330-825-5412. And just a reminder, our Hot Fudge Sundaes are the perfect treat to balance that ice cream craving with the chilly weather.

The Fox 8 Hot List contest began in March and ended May 6^th! We were nominated for Best Ice Cream Shop. The compition was tough, but we had amazing support from our fans who got the vote out (as did our awesome employees). Thank you for voting everyone! You made us #1 last year, and the results for this year's will be posted on May 20^th (we've got our fingers crossed), we'll let you know how we did!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there! We made lots of ice cream cakes for children and husbands wanting to do something extra sweet and special for Mom this year! We hope you all enjoyed them!

NEW FLAVOR ALERT! We added Grape Purple Cow to our custard list this year. We've been experimenting with the recipe to get just the perfect balance of grape flavor. Keep an eye out for it on our Facebook page so you can stop in and give it a try! We always welcome and encourage your comments about our products, so let us know what you think!
