Happy Memorial Day 2011

Memorial Day is the day we remember and honor those who have died in the line of service for our country. We pay homage and celebrate those brave souls who have fought and died for the freedoms we cherish today. Memorial Day became officially proclaimed on May 5th 1868. The date has changed several times, and the southern states didn't participate until after WWI, but in 1971 it became a nationally recognized holiday. The Memorial Day weekend falls just as the warm days of summer near and schools let out for summer break, so it has also become the marker for the start of the summer season.
As this Memorial weekend comes, what will you be doing to celebrate? Putting the Flag out is the most common gesture of memorial. But, summer picnics and cookouts are also top on the list for most people. Local swimming pools open up, and families flock to neighboring beaches and parks. Whatever activities we choose to do this weekend, we should remember those who fought and died in service of the American people. To those brave souls, thank you.
Have a wonderful Memorial weekend everyone!
